Created in 2018, the Thrive program supports student persistence at Indiana University Bloomington by pairing a structured on-campus employment ladder with professional development opportunities crafted around student interest. The program aids students in their transition to IU while helping to ease the out-of-pocket cost of accessing an IU education.
Thrive@IU creates a career ladder for students that starts with a job working for Auxiliary Business Services as soon as they arrive on campus. Their work experience will be supplemented with paid training in topics such as budgeting time, interview techniques, personal financial education, and resume writing.
Having a job on campus eases financial concerns while helping students build life skills. Research on student employment shows that working students gain skills in conflict resolution, financial management, priority setting, and time management.
