Music in Games Society

About

The Music in Games Society is designed to create an interdisciplinary platform for students and faculty to express their interests for game sound and game design. Our mission, therefore, is to foster a space of appreciation and excitement for the diverse world of video game music in our community. Our goals include setting up events such as concerts aimed at bringing together instrumentalists and composers to collaborate on video game music works, guest lectures with professionals in the field, and other events aimed at further awareness and promotion of video games and their music. Further, we will hold events and have a space for building a community amongst students in game design, music, and beyond. We are also passionate about educational outreach and working on video game and video game music topics within the larger Bloomington community. Our resources will include the ability to get in touch with and work with students among a variety of music and media disciplines as well as a space for peer support and community. Video game music has largely been seen as external to or unrelated to the music studied in our traditional classroom settings, but we hope to spread awareness of video games and their music as equally sophisticated and deeply meaningful.

The reach of this organization does not stop at Jacobs alone but rather extends to anyone interested in VGM.
