The Consulting Institute at Indiana Univeristy will be a consulting club to give students the chance to have hands on experience of what consulting actually entails.  Rather than have our members participate in case competitions they would write them.  This is because writing the case shows you're able to find information, filter out unnecessary facts and demonstrate a complete understanding of the concept being tested.  This will also be done in conjunction with current professors at IU because IU, unlike other universities, does not offer tenure for cases that get published and used.  Professors are deterred from writing these cases since there is no incentive, however, cases are a great way to get recognized nationally and there is a population of professors who want to write cases for that reason.

 

Since consulting can encompass many fields we won't focus on just one field for the club.  Rather we will try to give our members a breadth of information and strategies from the five main concentrations of consulting: financial, IT, HR, management and sales/marketing.  To best accomplish this goal we will also partner with existing specialized consulting clubs to give our members better insight into what those concentrations of consulting are like.  We will then decide to write a case that either focuses on one specific concentration or is a combination of a couple or more.  The reason we want to give our member's the information and strategies from all five concentrations is that they will learn skills to better themselves as future consultants and be able to write a case on any of the concentrations.
