The Big Red Horn Club at IU
About
The Big Red Horn Club Provides students within the Indiana Jacobs School of Music with the opportunity to take part in a large horn ensemble dedicated to excellent performance through rehearsals, masterclasses, guest presentations, community engagement, and the promotion of new music for horn ensemble.
Each semester, the BRHC presents a recital of horn ensemble music written for anywhere between 8 and 20 horns. The group also strives to engage with the community through children's concerts and other public playing.
The BRHC strives to be a fun, relaxing environment while retaining a commitment to excellence. The goal of this group is to provide horn players at IU with an environment where they can connect with fellow horn players in both a social and professional manner.
The BRHC supports new music and living composers. The majority of each semester recital is repertoire written by living composers and the BRHC commissions new works by IU student composers every year.
This group is open to all students, both undergraduate and graduate, who study horn with a faculty member in the horn area of the brass department of the Jacobs School of Music (Denise Tryon, Richard Seraphinoff, Jeff Nelsen), including, but not limited to, horn performance majors, music education students, and composers studying at the 400 level or higher.
